HOW WE APPROACH PMI
Post-merger integration (PMI) is a critical process for any organization that has recently undergone a merger or acquisition. A successful PMI requires careful planning, execution, and delivery. At XVARO, we have extensive experience in helping organizations navigate the PMI process.
Planning
Planning is the cornerstone of any successful PMI. At XVARO , we take a structured approach to planning that involves several key steps.
Firstly, we develop a PMI strategy that outlines the goals, objectives, and timelines of the integration process. This strategy should be aligned with the overall business strategy of the organization.
Secondly, we conduct a due diligence review of the organization being acquired to identify any potential risks, opportunities, and synergies that may arise from the merger.
Thirdly, we develop a detailed integration plan that includes timelines, milestones, and deliverables for each phase of the integration process. This is done by each business area, recognising that the level of integration may be different. This involves determining how the two companies will integrate their processes, systems, and people.
Integration activity can be planned big bang or phased and will be tailored by organisation and specific business area and activity. This recognises different strategies for different business areas and the interconnectivity of the activities.
Lastly, we recommend the establishment of an integration management office (IMO) to ensure effective coordination and communication throughout the integration process. This team should include representatives from both companies. XVARO often leads the integration team which should be responsible for developing detailed integration plans, managing the integration process, and ensuring that the integration is completed on time and within budget.
XVARO have developed a PMI playbook and templates to support this process which reduces effort and helps to ensure that the planning is complete.
